Morristown Travel Guide
Welcome to Morristown, TN!
Morristown is a city in Hamblen County, situated in Eastern Tennessee. As the site of turbulent Civil War battles, and where Davy Crockett grew up, it is also a city rich in history. Many state attractions are found only an hour away, including Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Cumberland Gap National Historic Park. The city itself offers plenty of outdoor adventure and recreation. Cherokee Park offers hiking, biking and nature trails, while Panther Creek State Park, with its gently rolling hills and valleys, is a great place to spot local wildlife and birds, such as white-tailed deer, beavers, screech owls and bald eagles. For water sport enthusiasts, both Cherokee Lake and Douglas Lake provide top notch fishing, boating and watersport opportunities. The resort communities of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are also easily accessible from the city. Visitors exploring the city's downtown area will notice the unique overhead sidewalks. Situated in the business district, these pedestrian walkways, known as the Sky Mart, were part of a major urban renewal project that was completed in the late 1960s. Today, the walkways connect and lead to downtown businesses and restaurants, and are also featured in local events and festivals.
